NASA Helps in Hawaii
The recent Kilauea volcanic eruption on May 3rd in Hawaii has called many industries together to aid the island, including NASA's Earth Science Disasters Program. Teams were called together to utilize NASA's orbiting satellites and sensors to study lava locations, volumes, patterns, and impacts. Astronauts on the International Space Station were even able to see and take images of the eruption to help the affected community and surrounding areas. With continuous improvements in science and technology, the space industry can continue to provide support to areas impacted by natural and other disasters here on Earth.
